The Intranet: A Communication Tool for Nursing by James P. Smith MSN, RN, CNA, BC
Abstract Healthcare organizations continue to trim both human and other internal resources in response to external market forces, which have reduced revenues. These changes in resource availability and utilization require healthcare organizations to work smarter and more efficiently to maintain their quality of care. Increased efficiency can be gained through the deployment of technology and automation. This article describes the rationale and process for designing, developing, and implementing an intranet, or internal web site, devoted to the needs of a Division of Nursing in a medium-sized community hospital.
