The Omaha System: Bridging Hospital and Home Care

Dr. Bowles holds a joint appointment as a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and as Director of Nursing Research at the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Philadelphia. Dr. Bowles' research includes the impact of information technology on patient outcomes and nurse decision making. Recent work includes describing the practice of advanced practice nurses using the Omaha System, the impact of information on discharge planning decisions, and building research databases to measure the quality of life among frail elders. Dr. Bowles is currently Co-Investigator of a pilot study to measure quality of life among nursing home residents and Clinical Coordinator of a randomized clinical trial to evaluate the use of tele-home care technology in the care of elderly diabetics.
